Experts in Directional Drilling

Installing or repairing water, cable, gas, sewage, phone, internet, fiber, and other service utilities on your property can be expensive, time consuming, and extremely disruptive to the natural landscape. Between existing utility lines, municipal code stipulations, natural obstacles, and other property constraints, traditional construction methods aren’t always the best option for installing service utilities. Directional drilling mitigates the impact of traditional construction methods by drilling, or “shooting”, strategic routes beneath landscaping, driveways, sidewalks, existing structures, and even bodies of water.

Directional drill

Directional boring (aka horizontal directional drilling) is a minimal impact, trenchless excavation method. This process uses a directional drilling rig on the surface to install utilities along a path underground without digging open trenches for the entire utility length. Our current equipment can drill up to about 600 feet and up to 30 feet deep but typically is less than 10 feet deep.

potholing / Hydro excavating

Potholing is a technique to expose a utility prior to excavation and allows the contractor to verify exact location of utility, right to left, as well as depth. This information can help avoid construction damage to the utility or to the people around the utility. Small as 6” but can also use it to dig trenches 10’ + trenches in highly congested utilities areas where excavating or hand digging would be too dangerous or safety concern.

Trenching

Trenching is a method which involves digging a trench for the installation of pipelines, conduits or cables. This method uses excavators, mini excavators, backhoes, and trenchers.

Cable plowing

Cable plowing is an alternative method used for cable placement. Typically used for rural applications and long haul fiber. This method is like a knife cutting through the ground, it is moderately invasive but is the quickest way to install long distances.

utility plan and profile/design

Due to regulations in the state of Colorado, many municipalities require plan and profiles. Plan and profiles are a blueprint of where the new utility will be placed alongside all the existing utilities underground. More and more municipalities are using plan and profiles when designing new utility infrastructure. This allows them to regulate the placement, prevent damages, and minimize restoration and public impact.

Traffic Control

This includes providing site specific designs for and the execution of traffic control plans. Traffic control set ups include arrow/message boards, flaggers, temporary traffic control set up, plan design, community outreach and permitting arrangements. All field personnel are ATSSA supervisor certified.
